About the Post-Baccalaureate Fellowship Program

In 2018, Beyond Barnard launched the College's Post-Baccalaureate Fellowship Program, supporting the research and work of recent alumnae.The Post-Baccalaureate Fellowship is a one- to two-year program that fosters the development of career skills, ongoing technical and workplace learning, and an opportunity to apply subject matter expertise to new technologies, digital scholarship, creative writing, and other platforms. 

Post-Baccalaureate Fellows collaborate directly with faculty directors of interdisciplinary centers, programs, and institutes across campus. Beyond Barnard facilitates regular supportive programs to foster community and help build skills that prepare the participants for careers and graduate programs.

Post-Baccalaureate Fellows currently work in the following centers and initiatives:

  • Design Center
  • Athena Center for Leadership Communities of Practice
  • Vagelos Computational Science Center
  • Toddler Center

Beyond Barnard's programming for the Post-Baccalaureate Fellows includes lunchtime sessions covering a range of topics (program planning, research, application to graduate school, and faculty talks, for example). And all Fellows have access to regular one-on-one advising to discuss their graduate and professional interests and plan their next steps.

The goal of the Post-Baccalaureate Fellowship Program is to provide post-graduate academic and professional training that prepares participants for meaningful work and continued research in a career field and/or graduate program that aligns with their interests. Applications for participation in the program open each Spring. Post-Baccalaureate Fellows typically begin their program by the end of the summer.

Meet the 2024-2025 Post-Baccalaureate Fellows

Ketaki Krishnan, Barnard Toddler Center

Hi! My name is Ketaki and I'm the Post-Baccalaureate Fellow at the Barnard College Toddler center. I am currently assisting a collaborative study between the Toddler Center and the Developmental Affective Neuroscience Lab at Columbia about Toddlers' emotional development. The study examines the functioning of the brain regions involved in emotional processing during this unique developmental period. I also assist with other ongoing research at the Toddler Center, such as a qualitative study on the experiences of parents with young children during the COVID-19 pandemic. Apart from my position as Research Coordinator, I work as an assistant teacher in two toddler classes and TA the Toddler Center Seminar. My experiences in the classroom inform my research, and I am excited to support Barnard students as they learn about toddler development, while I continue to explore my passion for early childhood!

Kiley Matschke, Vagelos Computational Science Center

Kiley Matschke is the Post-Baccalaureate Fellow at the Vagelos Computational Science Center (CSC), where she supports various Center initiatives. She facilitates programming for biweekly workshops, the Computing Fellows Program, the Pixel @ CSC web development course, and special events featuring guest speakers. She also manages the CSC’s digital platforms and curates and publishes content for event promotion. During the 2023-2024 academic year, she delved into video game development through independent research, creating a 2D game from scratch using the Lua programming language and LÖVE game engine. In her second year, Kiley will further her passion for computation, gaming, and pedagogy by teaching Intro to Computer Science—using Microsoft’s MakeCode Arcade—at a local high school. Her goal is to continue expanding access to interdisciplinary tech and learning, making it more inclusive and approachable for all.

Khepera Lyons-Clark, Design Center

Khepera Lyons-Clark (she/her) is the Post-Baccalaureate Fellow at the Barnard Design Center. She graduated from Barnard College with a BA in Sociology and has a deep commitment to sustainability and climate justice from a racial justice perspective. Khepera's current fellowship project explores her family’s ancestral connection to the land they were enslaved on in Virginia, transforming plant-based materials from that land into bioplastics and textiles to tell stories of climate justice through photography and material art.

Her work is heavily influenced by her interest in upcycling, natural materials, and the intersections of fashion, art, and environmental activism. Khepera hopes to use this year to develop a robust portfolio for her applications to MFA fashion programs, including Pratt’s Fashion Collection + Communication program.

In her free time, Khepera loves experimenting with new upcycling techniques, exploring her love for Black liberation movements, and spending time in creative spaces. Raised in Oakland, CA, she draws much of her inspiration from her community and the Bay Area’s rich history of activism.

Sewenet Haile, Athena Center for Leadership, Applied Learning Fellow

Sewenet Haile is the Post-Baccalaureate Fellow for Applied Learning at the Athena Center. As a fellow, she assists with programming and communications. She graduated from Barnard in May 2023 with an Economics degree.
